The Green Belt
with this work i went on a general loop starting close to the school going all the way to back heath then tough back heath village true a bunch of back streets and ended in a complete loop finishing where I started. I tried the task that required me to walk in a loop and photograph the surroundings that contained a specific cuolor which for me was green. With this I did use the easy route of taking photos of the flora but I also tried to photograph more of the vehicles buildings and signs as well as the other structures located around the area.
here is the link to the actual final exhibition for the green belt

i discovered that the image is correlated with gorge Washington with the dentures being his last surviving pair and that the correlation between the dentures which because of the time it was made was ether made of animal and human teeth or more commonly ivory and George washing ton the famous slave owner got teeth from animals and supposedly 9 teeth from slaves he paid for them. which adds to to the ideas with the dental guid of sorts more impactful and could comment on the ideas of the 9 teeth used. but the ideas of the imige seaming more candied still remains.

the on the initial viewing of the image it gives the idea of a psa about bad oral habits i also noticed that there the there is 2 black men sitting on a sofa with what seems to be gold chains on . one of them with a thing that looks resembles a clamp thing for the dentist but in gold but on thresher inspection could also look like a neckless in the mouth and the other man is making a hand in the shape of a finger on the trigger of a gun and in the top right corner of the image of some dentures that looks like there covered in tar from years. on second inspection there seems to be a man in the corner whose face was covert by the image of teeth. it looks like it could be a canned moment of the guys in there apartment but feels more staged the more you look at it as if the photographer was trying to create a precise statement and an implied meaning. it also seems to make you think of these people as the violent drug taking stereo types of black Americans. there seams to be a lot of lines leading to the corner of the room where your eyes will focus on the man with the seeming gold chin around his neck and the tattoos on his arms and the seams to be a lot of open space in the cramped room. it seems to have a simple light from of screen and the shadows have a greenish tone to it . it represents the space as this small privet location for them to be in. the most intriguing thin in the image is the artificial correlation with the original image and the image of the dentures. as the why it is laid out and the way the subjects react to the camera makes me feel that it is most likely a staged image masquerading as a candid one. i think the phot is about tricking the loudness in to thinking one meaning that is created by the artist . i believe the artist made the image as the artist made the ideas of the image and there for made the image. the ideas of the image of the comparing of the 2 images is what i think is most successful . i believe others may satiates the image is a weird and a bit gross and i don’t think that some may think it looks like a rappers Instergram or a album cover and i would have to agree with that idea. all of it is memorable but the most important thing to remember is the photos concepts.

with this photo graph it feels like a simple photo of a street in a European city and is during between dawn mid day with the shadows at such an angle that the source of light is located to a specific direction it semes to have a split contrast with the left side containing a bunch of short buildings in the river separate from the right side of what looks t be a Paris street with multiple connected buildings all at different angles and sizes and textures. it also semes to have a peaceful calm tone on the second viewing it looks as thought there is a inclosed nature to the center of the page as it has the majority of the shadows centralised and also the and the small booth on the side of the wall .also noticed the people down on the shore . in the images here the lines of focus draw in to the center of the page as the street norows in the distence and all the buildings shrink in to the end of the street and there seems to be a curve to the line as the lines follow mainly the flood walls that make up the city.
and the splitting line of the trees direction . there seems to be quite the smooth texture to the far right the centre seams slightly more gritty than the rest there seems like a misty feel to the left side of the image and the whole image feels soft . the lighting is quite light and the bright spots are quit large and abundant and are giving the image a more soft and ethereal image while the smoke like shadows contrast it in a more subtle aspect. the most intriguing part to me i believe is the hollow feel the image has to it. the image has a form of narrow space in it with the long narrow path with the tree having cut the image in to 2 separate narrow sections. it seems like it its a form of photograph that seems to represent the photographers view on the locations and how they react to there surroundings. I feel that this is the view of the absent location with its thin stretched street. the main difference from realitity is the quiet look to it and the soft i beleve that this photograph is effective at keeping the nature of realitynand the fealings of fantacy and isolation in a big city . |
what is it within your photography that you are really interested in ?
with in my photographs i think what interests me the best is how i react when taking a photo as i can be pre planing every minuet detail and then when actually out photographing i will get in to some strange liminal state of mind that i don’t seem to recreate by force. i just like to think about what i am thinking about while i take these i might over think might be finding it amusing or completely blank. what is it about your project that you want to know ? what i would like to know what actually draws me in as i know i like sertan buildings and structures but i dont know if tit is to do with lighting/texture/colour or the lines. what is it you want to document ? the time before change and the change like something for prosperity's sake but also as something for me to visually look back on and see how i see certain objects or places and how i view them for others to see . how much do you want to document what you see ? i notice that i like to document back streets or structures or locations considered old in style. or something i really like or even something i don't like and would like to draw attention to the fact i don’t like it when what do you want to share with the viewer ? i want to shear my view of the world around me and what catches my eye and how the world around me i would like to show my view of my world. i find that the things around me are changing and i believe that is good but i also think that i would enjoy seeing it and so i would photograph it. what do you want the viewer to experience? i want them to experience what i experience when i see the place or scene of what i photographed and i would like to also try to turn one imiger int somthing with a different feelings and there ideas of what the image could mean. what emotion or experience do you want the viewer to have ? i would like them to experience a real feeling of a story and i would like the viewers to experience a whole range of feelings and ides and to feel that they can feel empowered to show some level of interest in the subject have you documented in great detail a photographer or groups of photographers that have also photographed similar theme/story/subject? yes i have as with the work of Eugene Atget being one of documenting France at a important tuning point where France was being transformed at a rapid rate and he decided to photograph the old Paris before the change happened what was your findings with their work ? that there work is all a kind of documentary photography and is one that works as a snap shot of an old world all that is left of the Paris of the past and that he keep a meticulous count of his work. He would photo graph streets shop fronts people and locations such as a carnival or entertainment of that sort he wasn’t limited to one kind of location and style of photo. |
with this work there is some similarity but i think i can try and improve by taking them as more strait on than this but it dose focus on the architecture but i have to take them more like reference images if i want to exactly copy them but if Im just being inspired than i can just take a photo of the architecture
research i to browny flash 20
i have been spending some time working on how to photograph using a box browny because its a larger format than a 35 mm camera but my main issue was the requirement of 620 film which i do not have an easy way to access as they don't make it any more but i was told of a way to get around the issue so i researched more on the way of turning 120 film to fit 620 film and i have found out more about the proses of trimming the spool to fit.
